    Waste of time

    Our first visit was 10+ years ago. Then it was fun. Now it’s a corporate sideshow. You can buy Tillamook products just about anywhere in the western states. The prices they charge for their products at the Creamery are higher than what you pay at your local Walmart. 7 oz of non-aged cheddar for $8.50? I bet it used to be 8oz too. Shrinkflation. We spent 15 minutes there and left.

    Delicious Ice Cream (and other things too)

    Something for everyone here - we shared cheeseburgers and cheese curds but each got our own ice cream. Lots of ice cream options and they were all delicious! Bought cows in the gift shop that the littles loved, along with the free cheese samples!

    we LOVE Tillamook!

    Tillamook Factory! This was amazing. A huge factory, with a massive tourist-attracting welcome center where you can do a self-guided cheese factory tour with cheese samples. We had pre-reserved a 90 minute “Honorary Tillamook Taste Bud: Exclusive Ice Cream Experience.” A brand ambassador walked our small group of about 25 people over to a separate building where they did a powerpoint slideshow showing how the ice cream is made, how Tillamook is actually a dairy-farmer co-op of over 100 dairy farms in the area (we actually passed a farm on our drive that had the Tillamook logo in front of it). They gave us a chocolate covered vanilla ice cream bar on a stick. Then we did a paper-strip experiment to see which of us is a “supertaster” and which of us are just normal tasters. Most of us were supertasters. We also got to taste different types of chocolate chips and rank them in order of cocoa levels. That was fun. Then they brought out a bunch of half-gallons of ice cream, cut them with a big knife into 32 portions, and then divvied them out in segmented serving trays. We each got four segments (about the size of four normal scoops of ice cream); the flavors were peaches and cream, marionberry pie, chocolate peanut butter, and salted caramel pretzel. At the end they gave us some really nice pink ceramic ice cream cones (about double the size of a normal ice cream cone) with “Honorary Tillamook Taste Bud” on them along with long spoons with the Tillamook ship logo on them. I think the dishes are meant to be used for ice cream floats? We thought it was pretty great swag! We then went back to the welcome center and went upstairs to do the cheese tour, but the line was long, whereas the taste-testing line was not, so we just went there and grabbed wrapped samples of mozzarella, medium cheddar, white cheddar, and then there were sample cups with a cube of six-year aged cheddar in them. That was the best IMO.

    Hell. Skip it

    I don’t know how we missed that this is a cheese factory corporate ‘experience’ with a huge prison-style cafeteria with food that is not worth the long lines and chaos. No authenticity. Not nice.

    Family fun and worth a visit

    Loved our visit to Tillamook Creamery. We were impressed by the tasting tour, loved the food and ice cream and felt that it was well worth the trip from Cannon Beach. I disagree that the food was not tasty--I love spicy food but normally cheese is milder. I think you get what you expect. Actually if you attend the cheese tasting you might be surprised at how you feel about the different ages of the cheddar cheese and find that you do/don't like the sharpness. I love sharp cheese but educated myself from this tour at finding i didn't love the most aged cheese. We came on a Saturday and it was busy--glad we had purchased tickets for the tour in davance as they were all sold out when we were there. Also, some people complained in the review about the lines at the ice cream counter but we found it was long but moved super quickly. Cheat code: order from the outside counter where it was less busy! Our scooper was super careful about my nephew's nut allergy (changed gloves, used a clean scooper and went in the back to use a new tub). HUGE kudos for that! I know some people would say that the ice cream was pricey but we found it really inexpensive--the taster of three scoops was $9. The $5 cone was huge. The only negative was the terrible chaos in the parking lot which was hard to enter and exit. They could use some parking lot attendants!
